Frikadica Interviews: We Are The World

To read while listening to:

We Are The World - Clay Stones

The project We Are The World was a highlight at this blog a few weeks ago (read the post in portuguese here). Broadcasting their first album, Clay Stones, they gave Frikadica an exclusive interview and told us a little bit about the band concept and their projects for the near future:

Frikadica: Where did the name of the band come from? What kind of "world" are you?

We Are The World: "The name came from joking around regarding reclaiming the slogan.  "'We are The World.' 'No brother!  We are The World!!!'" We are the type of world where the oxygen is composed of tiger's breath and all children grow up to be trananimals".

Frikadica: How do you come up with the costumes and coreographies for the video and gigs? Are Ryan and Nina responsible for just them or are they part of the music as well??

WATW: "The Choreography is made by Ryan and Nina and the costumes are conceptualized by the band and constructed by Megan and Ryan. There have been times that the dance came before the music and greatly influenced it. Mostly the music comes first and then the dance. Ryan and Nina are also very much involved in the music as our inspiration. We write music that they will look good moving to".

Frikadica: What would you say are your musical influences? Do the comparisons to "The Knife" and "Cocteau Twins" make sense to you?

WATW: ""The Knife" and "Cocteau Twins" make sense.  There are so many influences I can't even begin to answer but if we could somehow write some songs that combine Black Flag and dubstep we would be very very happy".

Frikadica: When can we expect to see new videos? How about singles and remixes?

WATW: "New videos for "Not In Death' and "Fight Song" are almost done and one for "Lie Like The Forest" will be done in a few months".

Frikadica: Do you intend on touring this album? Any plans for Brazil and South America?

WATW: "We plan on playing as much as opportunity allows.  We would love to come to Brazil!  Can you bring us??".

Unfortunately, I haven't got the money or contacts to make this coming happen - at least for now - but this is a good sugestion for the people who have. It would surely be a great show to watch and dance to a lot!
